CD of When Light Flashes Help Is On The Way (2018) marks Charlie Peacock’s 4th jazz/improvisational recording. Recorded in Brooklyn and Nashville, When Light Flashes builds upon Peacock’s unique hybrid of modern jazz meets Americana with a contemporary production ethos. The rhythm section of Ben Perowsky (drums) and Felix Pastorius (bass) provide the support for featured soloists, Icelandic guitarist Hilmar Jensson, saxophonist Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones) and relative newcomer, Matthew White on trumpet. Ricky Skaggs alumnus, Andy Leftwich is a prominent contributor on fiddle and mandolin, as is Jeff Taylor on accordion (Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, The Time Jumpers). Peacock plays Rhodes electric piano throughout, with brief moments of acoustic piano. Hardly a blowing session, this recording is founded on group improvisation, composition and its unique production aesthetic.
Recorded by Andy Taub at Brooklyn Recording, Brooklyn and Charlie Peacock at The Art House and Sound Emporium, Nashville
Produced by Charlie Peacock
Mixed by Chris Allen (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vijay Iyer, Dave Holland) at Sear Sound, NYC
